Francisco Trêpa | Limbo: where the ‘desert’ and the rain forest touch each other | 2021 | Acrylic and charcoal on paper | 154x82 cm.
This painting creates an heterotopic image by juxtaposing a suggestion of a desert with a rain forest. This image appears in a body of work of painting where the artist unfolds his research on the exhibitionism of live animals in an exhibition context. So the reference to the zoo environments is straightforward, as it is the only place where we can find fake habitats that juxtapose places that by themselves would never be found together.
