About the collective:

Vês.Três is a collective project composed by the emerging artists Ana Malta | NUMPÁRA, Madalena Pequito and Maria de Brito Matias. The collaboration began in 2018, after they finished their respective degrees in Painting by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. The desire to continue working closely together as colleagues fostered the creation of joint works where pictorial harmony creates a game of seeing and recognizing. Vês.Três now exists as a fourth artist, with its own individual language, which only exists when the six hands come together on the same canvas. The collective has had exhibitions at Espaço Egeu (2020), Espaço Cultural Mercês (2021) and Espaço atmosfera m (2021).

Biographies

Ana Malta | NUMPÁRA

was born in Lisbon (1996), where she lives and works. She studied Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (2014-2018) and did a Master in Creative Industries Management from the Portuguese Catholic University of Porto (2018-2020). She is a visual artist and assistant to communication, production, and promotion of the Carpintarias de São Lázaro Cultural Center and Belo-Galsterer Gallery. Her work develops through the study of color, patterns, composition, scratching materials, vehicles of her plastic, and visual unconscious. A work where restlessness seeks aesthetics and where dialogue is based on the transformation of error into opportunity.

Maria de Brito Matias

was born in 1996 in Lisbon, where she lives and works. In 2018, she completed her degree in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon. She is currently finishing her Masters in Culture Studies with a specialization in Management of the Arts and Culture, from Universidade Católica Portuguesa. The artist's works intend to expose problems of contemporary society as if they were a mirror of a popular fair: reflecting, exaggerating, hiding, and deforming. Drag has also become central to her research due to the same factor of cultural reflection, beyond the concepts of mask or persona, and more recently the migration crisis has been an explored topic. Member of the collective project Vês.Três. Represented in Germany by the Studio Aesse gallery.

Madalena Pequito

Born in Lisbon, in 1996. She studied Plastic Performing at the Artistic School António Arroio, graduated in Painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, and completed a Master's in Arts and Cultural Enterprise at the Faculty Central Saint Martins, in London. Currently, she works in her studio at Núcleo A70 together with other artists. Her artistic work has an autobiographical and critical character. In her works, she addresses the barriers and challenges she encounters in her life as a visual artist. She addresses current issues such as feminism, the refugee crisis, and questions about the role of art and artists in contemporary society.
