Art Gallery

Since art is one of the three linchpins of LX Lapa, it can be found in all of the spaces in the two buildings that make up the concept store: the rooms, corridors, stairs, old kitchen and pantry. In fact, it is mostly everywhere, arranged informally as if in a private home.
But like the art lovers they are, Filipa and Sérgio decided to reserve an area for an art gallery, a separate space with an exhibition environment, where the art could breathe – in a time and space of its own, free of noise and outside interference.

Located in the 1950s’ building, the gallery area occupies two 100m2 rooms: one where the Jesuits’ reading room once was and the other where a part of the library used to be that later continued onto the upper floors. The new art gallery, which is dedicated to the work of young Portuguese and foreign artists living in Portugal, opened on 13 May with its first series of exhibitions curated by Carolina Pelletier Fontes and Delfina Sena, who despite their young age have impressive backgrounds and careers. Both created a more structured plan for the gallery, defined the exhibition concept and selected the artists and pieces.
